Poetry for Those Who Think They Can’t

A poetry workshop for newcomers

With Helen Stockton.

Do you suffer a poetry hangup from your school days? Would you like a better understanding of how poetry works, for yourself, to help others with their studies or possibly even to write? Poetry is a great but often misunderstood art form. We will address the basics: what poetry is and  whether it can be a poem if it doesn’t rhyme, together with what meter, rhythm, rhyme and form actually are and how they work. We will look at some common poetic devices and have a go at a simple poem ourselves, all in a friendly, fun and supportive environment .

She went on to study it to Masters level and continued to write it, speak about it, as well as teach it herself. Her aim is to demystify poetry for others and spread the joy. Helen is a member of: the Society of Authors; Lapidus, the Words for Wellbeing Association; The National Association of Writers in Education, and; The Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading
