A practical session looking at the joys, perils, and pitfalls of performing poetry live.

John Wheeler is a familiar face at live poetry venues in and around London including the Poetry Society’s Poetry Cafe. He is a multiple poetry slam winner, Farrago UK Finalist and Genesis Finalist for four years running. His work features strong performances, lively characters and a very big dose of humour.

John’s work has also been well-received in more literary circles, winning Highly Commended in the 2016 Bridport International Poetry Competition and other competitions and having work displayed in Lichfield Cathedral. His collection “What Did I Just Say?” was published in 2018 by Dempsey and Windle (ISBN 989-9-781-90743-260700)

John Wheeler is a fantastic performer, a natural-born story-teller and a master of rhythm who holds audiences spell-bound with his poems, especially his virtuoso pastiches of Shakespeare’s soliloquies and his satirical takes on the problems of modern existence.”
– Janice Dempsey, promotor and publisher, Guildford
